Conference.
Artists facing the environmental question.
Alexis Drahos, art historian.

In the age of global warming and natural disasters that ensue, the thorny question of our environment seems to have never been so pregnant. How do artists react in the face of climate change? In recent years, the examples have multiplied in the world of art, especially level of the melting of the glaciers which generates a worrying increase from sea level.
But this conference will also draw in the foundations of this "ecological awareness" of which the real beginnings go back in the 19th century century. It is in fact to that time that scientists and artists begin to worry about the future of our planet. From Theodore Rousseau to Monet to the landscape painters of the School of the Hudson River, the protection of nature becomes a priority and a reason for reflection. The idea will be to provide an exhaustive overview of the issue of preservation of our environment with the creation of the first parks to pollution – such as London's famous "smog" through the extermination of animal species. In other words, a transdisciplinary theme which will be at the crossroads of art and scientific disciplines such as glaciology or botany.
