LUGDUNUM - Museum & Roman Theaters

Lugdunum’s Museum is located on the Fourvière hill, on the site of the ancient city of Lugdunum, founded in 43 BCE, for which it is named. Designed by architect Bernard Zehrfuss and built between 1972 and 1975, the concrete structure blends into the surrounding hillside, beside an antique theatre and odeon (an auditorium for singing, music and poetry).
The themed visit follows a spiral ramp that descends below ground, through centuries of history, with exceptional views over the archaeological remains. For the 16th Lyon Biennale, contemporary works are installed in dialogue with the museum’s archaeological artefacts, and the Roman ruins.
