The chapel of Notre-Dame de l'île Barbe was founded in the 11th or 12th century by the Benedictine abbey located on the island, one of the oldest in France, prior to the 5th century, in order to welcome the many pilgrims. Today it hosts contemporary art exhibitions twice a year.
