"Mémoires vives" is Marie-Agnès Gachet Mauroz's first solo show at the small Françoise Besson gallery. It will feature some thirty works, following on from those shown in the exhibition l'Oeil et le Coeur, from the collection of Françoise Besson.
The works are created with a bias towards relief, wax composition and the fusion of materials, resulting in a pictorial expression in which the treatment of matter alone is the subject. Fragments of memory, mutated into projections on canvas and paper, create a universe where emotions become colors.
From the third dimension to the most recent reliefs set on monochrome or colored panels, Marie Agnès Gachet-Mauroz never ceases to celebrate the prestiges of matter. A crumpled, parchment-like material where figuration comes from within, in tune with the imaginary, through a style of writing that shuns appearances, where the accuracy of relationships and values takes precedence over symbology, converting it to the specificity of her vision. Gachet-Mauroz's eroded geological expanses, sometimes marked by a brief graphic, as well as her colorful, linear or concentrated architectures, rely on the weight of the hand in the mass, a practice she lucidly masters and which enables her to alternate work in volume on different supports. We find the same concern for balance and efficiency in her metamorphic alliances, and the same studied fusion of fire, wax, oil, ink and pigments. The unity of tone and the balance of surfaces exude something unusual, a visual impact. But whatever the issues of reality evoked here, denied or trans mutated, Marie Agnès Gachet-Mauroz's approach breathes hard and firm, in tune with her existential sap.
