an exhibition with Jean-Luc Vilmouth, Perrine Lacroix, Max Sister, Gaël Lévêque, Leïla Vilmouth, Fantine Lacroix curated by Marie Brines in partnership with Le Canut et les Gones

Around simple forms, multiple generations of artists begin to engage in dialogue. Beyond time and space, their conversation is punctuated by gestures, archives, transmissions, and surroundings. Some offer each other advice to endure; others focus on what binds them together. Embracing a relationship with minimal form and conceptual attitude, they learn from one another with modesty. The aim is to take pleasure in experimenting together, in the studio space and... within the context of a biennale. The incursion of reality excites; a shift takes place.

We are in 1986, during the "Chambres d'Amis" exhibition in Ghent. "The important thing is to endure" resonates like the advice Mario Merz gave to Jean-Luc Vilmouth, while filling his glass with wine. Upon his death in 2003, Jean-Luc Vilmouth paid tribute to him with a performance at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 2024, the works of the exhibition "The Important Thing is (Really) to Endure" will be produced on-site and accordingly.

Late night October 11, 6 p.m.-10 p.m. in partnership with Le Canut et les Gones
