Laurent MARION, born in 1970 in Thonon-les-Bains (74). Lives and works in Lyon (69), France.
"THE "PRESENTIAL OF A PAST
Conceptually, my work is an archive, but it integrates for its own shaping the destruction by fragmentation of what constitutes and composes it. The source documents for my collages are -flyers from past exhibitions, -free magazines with outdated advertisements for cultural events in Lyon. I cut them up, fragmented them in order to retain only the most colourful and graphic parts.
Produced from 2020 to 2022, the game consisted in gluing each piece of free paper thus obtained to another by using adhesive tape affixed to their respective backs without resorting to a support such as a sheet or cardboard.
Exclusively made of highly fragile printed paper, they are destined to deteriorate over the course of their future exhibitions (through yellowing, bleaching, corns, folds, tears, crumpling, accidents...) evolving progressively in an almost programmatic way towards another of themselves, altered.
This work metaphorically relates the existential conditions of all things, events and beings: -impermanence and oblivion, but in an explosive burst of colour!
