Adélaïde Fériot (born in 1985) is invited for our first exhibition for 2022/2023. She echoes the name of the structure: le Polaris, like the polar star which immutably indicates the north celestial pole and presents an exhibition resembling the aurora borealis. Here, the weakening of the earth's magnetic field reveals the fragility of the world.
The name of the place, evoking the migration of the poles to the artist, invites her to create a total work, in the heart of the circular building of le Polaris. Pigments and fabrics make up a veritable painting, a dreamlike landscape populated by metal body-sculptures. Natural phenomena, omnipresent in the work of Adélaïde Fériot, enter the exhibition space. From the slow rhythm of the seasons, printed in the tinted fabrics, to the instant suspended in the tableaux vivants, time is cyclical or fleeting.
Everything here is both immutable and ephemeral, like a vulnerable environment that welcomes as much as it threatens. Here the artist questions the perceptible manifestations of the elements by composing a painting where body fragments seem to be waiting for activation. Recalling the practice prior to photography of the “living painting” – which presents fixed scenes inhabited by bodies to the public –she invites us to project ourselves, in turn, into the image.
