"Ephemeral Earth" is a participative performance questioning the fragile balance of our habitat. Participate in the destruction of a raw clay shelter patiently built by the ceramists of the GADOUE collective. A performance proposed by Etienne Dubernet, Lara Erel and Virginie Pommel aka Elpom.
A clay shelter of 300 kg was built by three ceramists of the GADOUE collective in a room of the workshop. A protective shelter in which visitors can, if they wish, enter. A body, a house that gives off an apparent solidity linked to its imposing structure. Yet its balance is based on a subtle harmony. A sensitive experience is offered to the spectators.
After having familiarized themselves with this environment, at 7:19 pm, the visitors are invited to participate in the performance "Ephemeral Earth". They point out the structural parts of the raw earth shelter that the collective will cut, weakening it until it collapses. The visitors are confronted with the tipping point, the one that will break the balance. Metaphor and manifesto of our fragility when we do not take care of our protective place.
At the same time, an accelerated video of the construction of the shelter will be shown. It is a testimony of a collective work over a long time as opposed to the rapid destruction of the shelter.
GADOUE is a collective workshop of ceramists in Lyon Guillotière since February 2022. It is a place of fabrication, creation and experimentation around the clay material. Used to firing their ceramics to make them last in time, the ceramists of the collective experiment a new way with a collective performance in raw clay.
