In resonance with the 2022 edition of the Lyon Biennial of Contemporary Art, the Lyon Particule gallery exhibits the works of two artists invited to present their manifestos of fragility: Christina A. West & Danaël Valbert.
Christina A. West is an American artist working with various media such as video, installation, and sculpture to explore the complexity of the human and its relationship to others.
In her series of sculptures "Unmet" started in 2014, she tries to transcribe the psyche of her models and make the invisible visible by questioning our certainties about the personality of our loved ones.
The artist thus invites us to a true inner journey whose traces take the form of layers of colors in hyperrealistic antique busts revealed by a partly unpredictable creation/destruction process.
Danaël Valbert creates hybrid objects from different materials by mixing mechanical know-how and the use of new technologies. The eclectic work of this French artist questions our use of everyday objects as well as oppositions: virtual & real, digital & mechanical, shadow & light.
The diversity of the artistic fields and the themes addressed in his work - from new technologies to politics to ecology - allows him to bring a complex reflection considered a "poetic resonance of our industrial society".
Their works testify to two views sensitive to the world's fragility: one proposing a dive into the mysterious and even inaccessible interiority of the human being, the other an exploration of the borders of reality and the stakes of future technological progress.
