Born in 1985 in Isfahan, Iran, Niloufar Basiri lives and works in Lyon. After studying architecture, she started painting before arriving in France where she graduated from the École Supérieure d'Art de Clermont Métropole in 2020.
She is currently a resident at "Grand Large", an association for young creation in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
In her series of hand embroideries on Jouy canvas, Niloufar Basiri inlays elements of Persian miniature into typically French scenes where daily chores and country celebrations are mixed. She thus creates a bridge between two cultures which, at first, seem distant. In a metaphorical way, her work expresses the junction points between our cultures, what separates us, and the difficulty for a foreigner to integrate without denying her origins.
