Two Art Centers in Ardeche – Gallery Mirabilia in Lagorce and La Fabrique du Pont d’Aleyrac in Saint-Pierreville - make a tribute to Shafic Abboud, a painter of lebanese origin, a life and a work between East and West, between abstraction and figuration.
Shafic Abboud was born on november 22, 1926 in Mhaïty, Lebanon. He settled in Paris in 1947, worked in the workshops of Metzinger, Othon Friesz, Fernand Léger and André Lhote, and then enrolled in the National School of Fine Arts.
Recognized artist from the beginning of the 1950s and multi-talented creator, Shafic Abboud used engraving, ceramics, tapestry, and collaborated with many poets or visual artists. Shafic Abboud has presented throughout his life, about fifty personal exhibitions in Lebanon, France, Europe, United States and took part in many collective exhibitions (Artfair, Biennale, FIAC) ; his works are part of major public and private international collections. Shafic Abboud is a painter of the « Nouvelle école de Paris; his artwork, stands in balance at the limits of abstraction and figuration. During the many years spent in Paris, it is also the light from Lebanon, his native country which appears in his paintings, until erasing sometimes the subjects – nudes, portraits, landscapes … for the benefit of painting itself, in which the colour draws. His artwork explores the joy and the gentle art of living, by strong and bright colours, the dark blue and the night reflexion on nature, the brown of the plowed earth, the yellow of the dazzling sun.
Exhibition's inauguration: sunday the 17th of July, at 6 PM
